I set up an MX record to do email forwarding and it is not working. What is wrong?

MX records are just used by email servers to determine where to send they email. They do not have the capabilities to router mail an email address. An email server would be required for this to work properly.

DNS Made Easy does provide a variety of different forwarding services. User account forwarding which is found with the POP / IMAP / Webmail services, and Enterprise Mail Server Forwarding.

What is the difference between Mail Server Forwarding and User Account Forwarding with the IMAP / POP products?

Mail server forwarding is used to forward all mail from one mail server to another mail server for a paticular domain. The destination mail server (an MTA, mail transfer agent) must have a the abilities to accept mail for the domain. The mail is not actually delivered to the mail forwarding server, it is just passed through or routed through the server. This service is extremely popular for people that want to accept mail on a port other than 25 if their IP is blocking port 25. This solution gives users (mail administrators) the most flexibility because you are running your own mail server but also takes more knowledge of mail servers and setup.

Mail forwarding accounts used within the IMAP / POP products is actually different as the destination for the email is not another mail server but actaully another email address. The mail is actually delivered to the forwarding computer and then it is resent to the new email address. This solution is very easy to setup as no configuration of a mail server is required.

What happens if DNS Made Easy mail servers get listed on Spews? What is DNS Made Easy's policy to spammers and what is DNS Made Easy's opinion to Spews and other DNSBLs?

First of all DNS Made Easy never sends out any more of UCE or UBE. We only send out emails to users that have signed up for our service. This helps keep our servers usually clean of being listed.

The DNS services will never be affected by a Spews listing. Spews will only affect our mail services. DNS Made Easy has strict anti-spam and anti UCE and UBE policies and we work very hard to keep the problem users off of our network. This should keep the IPs clean of any problems. Please review or TOS and Disclaimer.

You can view our policies / opinions of Spews and other DNSBLs here.

If I use your enterprise mail backup service can a user retrieve their email from the backup servers with POP or IMAP or Webmail?

Backup mail servers do not have any knowledge of the correct or incorrect users for a domain. They do not have mailboxes or maildirs that are used for mail delivery. They just queue your mail until the dedicated mail server that has those mail setttings comes back online. (They send the mail to the server that has the lowest MX record that is currently available.)
