DNS Made Easy Failover Service Prevents Downtime for Corporations Worldwide DNS Made Easy's Failover Service proves to be a key asset for organizations in preventing downtime. “We have noticed an abnormally high amount of outages at many large data hosting and collocation facilities,” states Steven Job, President of DNS Made Easy. “These data facility outages were catastrophic for many organizations however the DNS Failover services offered by DNS Made Easy prevented our customers from experiencing extended downtime of their own services by directing their traffic to their backup data facilities.” The DNS Failover service of DNS Made Easy works by having multiple distributed monitoring locations check clients’ systems and make sure they are responding accurately. These checks are done in very short intervals (usually 2 minutes or less) and the results are aggregated from multiple locations for improved accuracy. As soon as a failure is detected, DNS Made Easy will automatically check the client’s systems at backup facilities to make sure those services are available. If the backup systems are responding properly, then DNS Made Easy changes the necessary resource records to the functioning IP. The IP change is made using DNS Made Easy’s proprietary Peregrine Cascading Instant DNS Update Service which will ensure consistent record updates on all DNS servers within the DNS Made Easy constellation. DNS Made Easy states that all clients using their DNS Failover service must have redundant (or “mirrored”) hosting elsewhere to use the DNS Failover service. Optionally, if the clients do not have redundant systems of their own already, VPSit, a sister company of DNS Made Easy, provides virtual servers that can scale to the client’s needs. Also, clients that use the DNS Failover service must also use the DNS Made Easy IP Anycast DNS service, which provides the foundation for the DNS Failover service. By utilizing DNS Failover and System Monitoring, DNS Made Easy customers can achieve a solid and cost effective solution to a historically difficult and costly problem. In the first two weeks of July 2009, the DNS Made Easy Failover service took action in response to 14,456 systems events. The downtime of the primary monitored systems ranged anywhere from 1 minute to as long as 4 days. “With the use of the DNS Failover service DNS Made Easy prevented 51,607 hours and 24 minutes of downtime in the first 14 days alone. With an average of over 3 hours of downtime per system this could have been catastrophic for many organizations and companies,” said Steven Job. “Keeping your web presence and systems online 24/7 is becoming more important everyday as companies require the Internet to conduct their business," stated Steven Job. “All parts of business, communication, and social activities are planned with the use of the Internet. It is a vital part of our lives and everyone relies on the services being available at all times. We are pleased that thousands of new organizations entrust DNS Made Easy every month to ensure availability of their critical systems. It is also great to know that we are able to continue offering these services for a fraction of the price of any of our competitors.” DNS Made Easy pricing is a fraction of the price charged by any valid competitors in the business. A study recently released by Tiggee recently showed the ROI by choosing DNS Made Easy over other IP anycast providers.
